The Head Instructor of the dojo is Joe (Pino) Gigante. Pino started Karate at the Orange Grove Dojo in Johannesburg in 1976, training under the watchful eye of Sensei Stan Schmidt and achieves the grade of Sandan in March 2003. Pino was an active participant of the famous “Early Birds” training at the SA JKA Honbu Dojo where South Africa’s top senseis trained. He has competed in many national competitions, winning a number of gold and silver medals for both Kata and Kumite.

Club Information

The style of karate we practice is known as Shotokan.

It is the method originally pioneered by the Okinawan Master Gichin Funakoshi and further developed in Japan by Master Masatoshi Nakayama.


Location

Training is held at our dojo in Kenmore on Tuesday evening 7.00 – 8.00pm and Thursday evening 7.00 – 8.00pm. We also have an outdoor training session on Saturday mornings 7.30 – 8.30am at the Greenhill Water Reservoir on Russel Terrace.
